Has anyone had any experience of applying for a Schengen Visa for a Civil Partner? We have recently (successfully) made an application for a forthcoming trip to the Azores, via the Portuguese Consulate in Manchester, for a visa for my Civil Partner, who is South African. We had understood that a Schengen Visa was issued free of charge to the spouse of an EU national, however we were required to pay the fee even though we had the certificate with us. |

UK CPs would be subject to the same rules as for Portuguese Civil Unions, which are actually more like Registered Partnerships and are available for straight couples as well. As far as I can tell the only significant difference between straight & gay unions is that only straight couples can adopt - so I would expect immigration rights to be identical. |
