photoLast year was something of a roller coaster for me, and I'm still unsure as to exactly where I am going in life. However the one thing I am sure about is my need to ‘get a life' and enjoy it in the company of others. Hopefully I'm not yet 'over the hill' - still a few more adventures to be had! I'm looking for friends, lovers, holiday companions, or even a partner.

It's not just the young!

This morning I caught the 11:38 Virgin train from Euston To Manchester. The 'reserved' signs weren't initially working, therefore many travellers, such as myself, with open returns had to take a seat that potentially could have been reserved. A few people with reserved seats politely asked if people could move, although many just sat elsewhere - there were plenty of spare seats.

At Milton Keynes a well dressed elderly couple entered the carriage. They located their seats, but there was a young man asleep in one of their reserved seats. The woman informed the sleeping man that he was sitting in her seat. As he was asleep he did not respond. Her husband then pushed the man on the arm and abruptly told him to move. He woke up somewhat confused as to what was happening. A man opposite tried to explain to the couple about the reserved signs having not been lit up at Euston. They ignored the explanation and got quite abusive with the man in their seat. I then suggested a polite request to move with 'please' in the sentence might help matters! The now fully awake man informed them he would gladly move if they adopted a more civil tone.

The couple were having none of it. They informed him they were going to find the guard to have him forceably ejected from their seat. Other passengers now leapt to his defence. They stormed off! The story had a happy ending though. They never returned, and the man was able to return to his slumbers.

Seems to me the elderly couple were up for a fight. I guess it's happened before...

(Funnily enough, it wouldn't be the first time the train crew have told the complaining people to just go to First Class rather than cause a verbal fight).
