ASLEF drivers' union has announced that its South West Trains' driver members are planning to strike on four dates - March 31, April 1, 2 and 3.

ASLEF yesterday announced the strike dates – which will run from 0001 on 31 March to 2359 on 3 April – over a pay dispute.

A limited train service and some bus replacement services will run during this period. Details of the strike day services will be available in due course so please continue to check our website.

We have offered a pay increase of 4.5% to its members, which would give a driver working in the London area a basic salary before overtime of £40,447 for a 37-hour, 4.4-day week.

All other trades unions offered the deal have accepted it or recommended it to their non-driver members in a ballot.

Stewart Palmer, our Managing Director said:
'We regret the significant disruption this will cause to our passengers and we reassure them that we will do everything we can to avoid this strike taking place.

'We are very disappointed that ASLEF has taken this decision as we believe that this is a very good offer in the current economic climate.'

We remain available to talk with ASLEF, as it is of course our hope that these strikes can be avoided.

That's an important week for me, sadly, but it would be nice to work from home a few days!

But from experience I don't think it'll happen will it? These things always get called off at the last minute.

What I'm NOT looking forward to though, is constant audio announcements on the train to and from work for the next week....
