"Transport for London commissioner Peter Hendy has told commuters who travel via London Bridge Station to consider delaying their journeys to avoid overcrowding during the Olympic Games."

"Mr Hendy was speaking at City Hall during a meeting of the London Assembly's transport committee.

He described the day-by-day and hour-by-hour analysis of likely travel patterns during the 2012 Olympics that has been carried out by Transport for London.

"We were able to show that at London Bridge at many times of day there is no pressure at all," he said.

"Sometimes [during the Olympics] there will be times when London Bridge will, on our predictions, be very crowded.

"On one or two days it will be very, very crowded and the best thing to do if you happen to be here on the day that the equestrian event turns out at Greenwich is to have a beer before you go home because you won't be able to get into the station for a bit."

"But that doesn't mean that you can't get home; neither does it mean you shouldn't come to work."

Mr Hendy also announced a new set of web pages at www.tfl.gov.uk/2012 to help London businesses prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games."
