Me and quickfind:andrewaldridge are booked into the Maspolomas Green Oasis for a weeks holiday in February.

It's all inclusive, but I've seen mixed reviews for the place from all the way from its brilliant to its a rodent infested hotel.

Wondered if anyone had any recent experiences and reviews of the place?

Also how much is a taxi to Playa del ingles likely to cost?

The taxi is cheap. Not sure if it rises in the evening at all but during the day I found it to be way under a fiver.

Don't know the green oasis though, not from personal experience.

Just a quick look on Google Earth suggests that unless you get very pissed it's dead easy to walk to the Yumbo, probably just over a mile.

Gran Canaria is such that the time of year will bring different experiences. Read July & August and the place has cockroaches and other bugs ... because it is tropical, that's kind of unavoidable. That said, only one place last summer had any roach's, all the others were clear. In Feb there really should not be too many bugs.

I guess the food is bound to be a little predictable and these things are bound to not be top notch either. Unless it happens to be 5* (and it isn't) then you have to expect buffet warmed up stuff which is only going to be edible if you get first sitting. I personally would always go self catering to enjoy the vast array of nearby restaurants.

But all uphill!

Taxis are very cheap though, and usually in plenty supply.

Yeah, going there it is. I have done the walk several times and I'd say walk there and ride back. But then, that's me!

To be honest it was cheaper than most of the self catering restaraunts, so even if the food is disgusting and we end up eating out during the week we haven't actually lost out that much

Sounds like a plan Tom.

He's not kidding about the hill though. Where you are is right down in a dip and to get anywhere in Playa means a climb up and I think you still have to go the long way though why they've never put in stairs is beyond me, I am sure there is room for them.

I am cheating this year and staying in the Barbados which is really just across the road to the Yumbo. Speaking of the Barbados. There is a restaurant there called 'Silos' which is one of the better ones in the resort. If you like Flambé fruit (bananas in my case) just ask for them even though they are not on the menu.

This year will be my second Maspalomas Pride though I have no plans to participate on a float like I did in 2006! I think I'll be happy to watch the parade from the balcony.

Have you been to Playa Del Ingles before Tom?

Yeah I went with my ex in October 2005, we stayed in the Riu Waikiki in Playa del Ingles, again it was all inclusive but the food was fab, and the bar drinks even better, was just basically self service except for spirits.

Hmm, I think I could kinda live with all inclusive. Maybe one time I'll give it a go as a change.

Well now back from the Green Oasis in Maspalomas, not a bad hotel at all.

Always something to eat between the hours of 8am and 11.30pm, you really could not go hungry.

Alcohol was fine, had lots of vodka and lemonade. Though the wine wasn't the best.

Not a beer drinker, but the people we chatted to said it was fine.

Hotel has 3 swimming pools, one heated apparently in the winter.

Has plenty of daytime activities if sunbathing is not your thing, I went rifle shooting and pistol shooting!

Would definately go back to that hotel again.
