Full casting has been announced for the forthcoming Broadway revival of Gypsy, starring Patti LuPone as Rose, Boyd Gaines as Herbie and Laura Benanti as Louise. The musical will begin performances at the St. James Theatre on March 3 and open on March 27, directed by its author, Arthur Laurents.

The cast of Gypsy will include Leigh Ann Larkin as Dainty June, Tony Yazbeck as Tulsa, Marilyn Caskey as Electra, Alison Fraser as Tessie, and Lenora Nemetz as Mazeppa, with Bill Bateman as Mr. Goldstone, Jim Bracchitta as Uncle Jocko, Sami Gayle as Baby June, Bill Raymond as Pop, Brian Reddy as Weber, and Emma Rowley as Baby Louise.

The ensemble includes Beckley Andrews, Nancy Renée Braun, Mindy Dougherty, Kyrian Friedenberg, Sarah Marie Hicks, Steve Konopelski, Matthew Lobenhofer, Nicole Mangi, Katie Micha, Matty Price, Andy Richardson, Jessica Rush, Alicia Sable, John Scacchetti, Geo Seery, Rider Quentin Stanton and Pearce Wegener.

Gypsy features a book by Laurents, music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Bonnie Walker will reproduce Jerome Robbins' original 1959 choreography. The production will feature scenic designs by James Youmans, costumes by Martin Pakledinaz, lighting by Howell Binkley, hair by Paul Huntley, and sound design by Dan Moses Schreier.

Gypsy is being produced on Broadway by Roger Berlind, The Routh/Frankel/Baruch/Viertel Group, Roy Furman, Debra Black, Ted Hartley, Roger Horchow, David Ian, Scott Rudin and Jack Viertel.

I love Gypsy, it's my favourite musical even though I've never seen it performed (well, apart from the Bette Midler telly, and the Rosalind Rusell version, the least of which is said the best). Ethel Merman is my Rose so I can't imagine anyone else in the part, so Patti Lupone should be interesting
