A strange question, perhaps, but a genuine one nonetheless.

I've got a bunch of recipe books (24 to be precise), a mixture of fairly new and some of Mum's old ones from as far back as the 1960s.
Between them they hold many thousands of recipes for all manner of things.

However, the problem is, it can take a while to search them all for just the right one, and some of them being old have seen better days and will fall apart if they are used too much more, no matter how carefully they are handled.

So I thought why not put them all on the computer to make it easier to search them and to preserve the books.
Marvelous.

However, I'm not going to spend the next god knows how many years typing them all in, no way.

So I was thinking about scanning them and using some OCR then storing them in a database of some sort.

Which is why I am turning to you, dear OUTers.
Anyone done this before?
Any suggestions or tips or recommendations?
I have a scanner, so that's the first step out of the way, but other than that...

Any thoughts or suggestions for tools to do this and how to make the process a little easier? I realise it's going to take ages anyway, of course.

Oh, and the software has to be Mac based just to further complicate.

So, over to you lot - any thoughts?

Thanks awfully.
