Hope someone can help. My friend had a serious head injury and was unconcious for 2 days. He now has serious memory problems, and he can't remember any of his passwords or PIN numbers. He's desperate to access his e-mail (hotmail, I think he has a yahoo account too). He can't find any written record of his passwords anywhere. When he tries to rest his hotmail / windows live password, he gets the option of sending a new password to his e-mail (which he can't access) or answering a secret question. But he can't remember the answer to his secret question ! Apart from contacting windows live via their website, does anyone have any bright ideas ?

A similar thing happened to a friend on mine a few years ago (tripped over a cat and banged his head and ended up out cold for three days, He went to a hypnotist, Oddly enough it worked but after writing the info down and being "awakened" he found he still could not remember. He eventually recovered.

There doesn't seem to be a way of accessing these things unless you have an alternative e-mail account to which new passwords can be sent. The risk of someone 'hacking' the account is too great, as I found to my cost recently when a so-called "friend" of the family got into several e-mail, e-bay and paypal accounts because they knew addresses and guessed passwords and answers to secret questions.
Hotmail customer services helped a lot by allowing access after a considerable amount of proof, e.g. list of contact's addresses, who the last half dozen e-mails were sent to, etc.
They also checked the regular "IP address" used to access the account was the one requesting the help.

Thanks for the advice, I suppose Hotmail customer services might help my friend, but I doubt that he will be able to remember contact addresses or who he last sent e-mails too. He doesn't even remember anything about his boyfriend, until 2 weeks ago, it's so spooky
