Getting put on the right tax code.

Ok, has anyone got any suggestions on how to actually get put onto the right tax code.
I temp with Pertemps. I started temping with them last Oct but because the last P45 I had was from about 3 years ago (I'd been living in Ireland) I ended up being on emergency tax until March even though I also gave them a new P46 and in the end I went into the local tax office about a different matter (claiming tax credits) and while I was there I mentioned the tax code to the guy behind the desk, he did something and about 3 weeks later it was fixed.
So, in the last week of Feb (I get paid weekly) I was finally put in the right tax code and I did get a nice lump sum of cash back about 2 weeks after that.
However, new tax year - and for some reason I've been put back on emergency tax.
I was sent a letter from the Tax office in March which confirmed my new tax code. I gave that letter to Pertemps. Pertemps said that they couldn't accept it because the tax office needs to contact them directly. I called the tax office myself 4 weeks ago, they've said that they've already given Pertemps my correct tax details.
I gave Pertemps a little bit of leaway over the Easter/Wedding holiday season because it can be difficult to get everything done in a 3 day week. And yet - today I just got my payslip and it's still on the wrong tax code. And to make matters worse, I'm actually on holiday now (going away tomorrow) so I wont be back at work until next Thursday.
Ok, so when this is resolved I'll get it all back anyway - but I actually just want to get paid properly now. Being on emergency tax makes a difference between earning less than £200 per week to earning more than £200 per week. I kinda need that cash to buy some little luxuries (like food, pay bills ontime those sort of things) so I'd really like my money! |
