Are any OUTers members of LGCM for Lesbian & Gay Christians?

Would you recommend it to other Gay/Lesbian Christians to join? What have you got out of it? It looks very Anglican, is that so? What events have you attended? What do you feel it really offers to the Gay/Lesbian Community and Gay Christians? If you have had neither a positive or negative experience with LGCM please let me know.

I was told about it and checked out its website a couple of times, but didn't get a 'feel' for joining. So I requested an 'Information Pack' online to find out more, which arrived with my name spelt wrong .... (doesn't encourage people to join when they can't get you name right that you have filled in on a form). Also I got leaflets/flyers for events that had passed and a flyer for an event that didn't say when it was taking place.

I still can't get a 'feel' for what it offers, so can others enlighten me from their personal experience on his organisation and why I should join. Is it worth its annual fee?

*** I appreciate that some OUTers don't have a faith or have no time for people that do. Please can I ask that this Forum does not turn into a 'God Does/Does not Exist Battle', and that those who disagree with the Church / Faith, ignore this Forum and move on. Thanks ***

I'd be interested in people's replies.

I'm a Catholic and had a look at Quest, which is a similar thing for l/g Catholics, but found it wasn't want i was looking for - seemed to be older people reoccupied with past hurts rather than offering anything for today. I may be unfair, but that was my experience.

I don't know a lot about LGCM but I have been attending MCC in Camden for some time now and can recommend the church to anyone who is looking for a place to freely worship as a gay man or woman.

Maybe one day I will go to a LGCM service

... *laughs* .... I would LOVE to go to a service at the MCC in North London, your ex or soon to be ex musical director was responsible for me coming back to my faith. I spent alot of time reading the Sermons on the website and getting alot of comfort from them.

Also the Rev Sharon Ferguson (who I believe is the Assistant Rev at MCC North London) is the 'Cheif Executive' for LGCM and her signiture is on the Introductory Pack from LGCM.

.... Small world!!!!!!

I have been a non paying member of our local LGCM group in Bristol for many years. In fact it was the first time for me of putting myself in contact with known Gay people.
The group is as good as the organisation. I would like to attend meetings but I find I am usually busy, often with church work. The Bristol group are a friendly lot and after a little monthly service we go to the pub. There are also other events in the diary, interesting talks by various clerical type people, and in the summer we have a few house and garden visits.
Mainly older men 40's and upward. A RC priest, several Anglicans, Methodist, Quaker (or should I say Friend) and I believe a Baptist.
Give it a go. You wont know what your local group is like until you try it out.
