photoI'm 46 and have recently moved to Bournemouth. I am looking for new friends in the area and also hopefully my Mr Right! I work in website design and IT (self-employed from home). My musical taste is mostly 60s to 90s, pop and some rock.

I've lived in Hereford for around 21 years, about 16 of them with my ex partner who I separated from two years ago. I've been single since then, a situation not helped by the total lack of any gay scene or venues in Hereford (since the demise of the Black Lion and the short-lived La Rue's).

I'm self employed doing website design from home, and live in rented accommodation, so I'm not tied to the area and can move fairly easily. So I'm thinking about leaving the area and moving to somewhere where there is more going on, not just pubs/clubs but also other local gay social activities and places to go where there are likely to be other gay people.

I'm 46 so want mixed places, not clubs full of young guys. My current favourite place to go clubbing is the XXL nights in Birmingham, not for the type of guy the night is targeting but because it is gay men only and more like how gay clubs were 20 years ago.

I'm also a member of Gay Outdoor Club and Outdoor Lads, and try to do walks most weekends. These are good for socialising, but it seems that many members don't extend the friendships outside of the group activities.

I have family in Lymington so I'm tempted to move back down south to be nearer them, but at the same time not in the same town. The question is where to go.

I am currently thinking of Bournemouth because it's only about 20 miles fro Lymington and seems to have a gay scene based around smaller venues (I don't like the bigger clubs). I haven't been there for ages though, and obviously intend to pay the place or wherever I decide a number of visits before moving.

So the question really is whether Bournemouth is a sensible place to consider or whether I should look elsewhere. And secondly, is there anyone in Bournemouth or wherever else people suggest that I could meet up with when I visit to show me around, explain the good and bad points of the venues etc?

As for timescale I'm thinking of moving sometime next year (my tenancy agreement is up to June) but am starting to think about where now.
