Its like you're standing on a platform of some leafy suburban station, you know the ones, where a lick of paint tries to cover up the failures of the past and project a bright new future instead of the same old drudgery.
I stand there waiting patiently for the next train which will hopefully take me to the end of the line. I look at the tracks and notice they're reciprocated on the platform edge, the white showing the point of no return, the yellow just a warning, a dare to cross if you have the courage to do so. I stand well back. I lean against the barriers that protect the platform monitors wondering what sights they must see throughout the day with no one to tell unless a train is there.
My eyes wander to the yellow line again, i stare at it. I've crossed it a few times now and know that it challenges some, taunts others, but its just a line at the end of the day, people usually cross it without thinking everyday. A new journey starts with every step, some travelling to the end of the line others bailing out after a few stops. Journey complete. I suppose thats how i ended up in this place, it certainly wasn't my choice of destination that's for sure. Still.
This station isn't one of the popular ones, no hussle and bustle or people bumping into one anothers lives. Oh it has an open waiting room, people sit and gaze at the destination board, some patiently, others beside themselves with the poor punctuality of the service. Their fidgetting annoys me, we'll get there in the end, that i truly believe, but i don't need them to remind me that time ticks forever on.
A couple sit on the bench a smile on her face, his wondering why the hell they broke their journey here of all places. He has my sympathy. His eyes notice the white line, it would be so easy to cross, but does he want to with her? Complacency starts to lose its grip on his heart. Surely there has to be more out there than this half-way house. Amen brother.
The clocks ticks on, not too much longer now. Hopefully. A four note chime breaks the spell, both I and he feel the chance to escape this dead end that surrounds us, but the yellow line crows and mocks us as the train rattles through without slowing. It wasn't meant to be for me this time, i was ready, ticket poised, but for some reason the fast service doesn't stop at this station. That's not a problem, I'm happy to wait for the slow train, it'll get here when it gets here, then my wait will be over and i can also enjoy the journey to the end of the line.

I had the intention of not coming online tonight. Decided to just sit down and read and listen to some music, but i felt such a strong urge to start writing again, something i haven't done in a very long time and thought i'd post the nonsense that spewed forth :o) |
