I live in Cambridge. I'm not wedded to the place. I generally get on best with men in their 30s/40s. Arts interests mostly ,politics and cars - bit of an anorak as far as cars are concerned!. I prefer spending time with men who don't smoke or see getting plastered and throwing up as one of the joys of life. Friends of Bill W welcome. No Leos, please. I'm not usually bothered

I just caught a news item on PM - Pastor Jones being interviewed by Caroline Quinn.

He was reacting to the recent killings of UN staff in Afghanistan - his line seemed to be something along the lines that killings like this proved that Muslims were violent.

I had missed the fact that he and his church in Florida had recently put The Koran on trial - strangely, it lost the case, and then Pastor Jones' assistant burned it.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

He seems to be an example of a person whose appreciation of history is limited, with his interpretation of scripture limited to a narrow interpretation of parts of The Bible - I do not know how he regards other world faiths - I can only assume that at best, they simply don't get a look in with him, at worst, further condemnation as per his view of Muslims.

I am presently rather frustrated - but do you think a chap like this (and the extremists in Afghanistan who used one extreme act to justify another) should be ignored or not? Until now, I have always felt that if someone has views that are so very definite, they will not change them to please anyone, and all the rest of us can do is to manage the consequences of them going around expounding their views.
