I turned 30 recently, and suddenly realised how friendless and boring my life is (could be a mid-life crises?!!)...so i want to change that and make some good friends who i can chat with, socialise with and who-knows-what with...

At work recently, we were discussing our favourite films, and all of mine were mainly horror and sci-fi.
We discussed films, namely 'War of the Worlds' and 'signs'... and i said that both of these were good films, but that i was confused at the religous messages at the end. In war of the worlds, the aliens were killed by bacteria ''that god, in his wisdom, put upon the earth'' (or words to that effect)...in signs, the young boy was 'saved by god' as his asthma stopped him inhaling some toxin from the alien, making Mel Gibsons character 'believe' again.
My point was that if life from another planet did come to earth to start a war, or just to say hello, or even if NASA found a single organism on another planet, would that not disprove the whole theory of religion and god? Would the fact that life exists elsewhere prove that god does not exist? Am i right in thinking that the Earth is, apparently, the only planet with life, created by god?
Sorry to go on a bit, and i really don't want to offend anyone with this Topic. But i admit that my understanding of religion is very limited, and i just wanted to settle the arguement at work, one way or the other! Thanks!!

When you're talking about religion and faith you'll never settle the arguement.

In this case, the arguement for will be that God created all life. This is not restricted to Earth.

Of course when you get to Paganism and talk about the Earth Mother, you'll be presented with a Mars Mother we simply haven't encountered yet.

And so on and so forth...
