First things first! I know I am a day early! Haha quickfind:sexymancslad I beat you to this one! Wednesday 15th August is the feast of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary! When Mary was Assumed into heaven (Judith15:10-11) Wednesday this week (15th August 2007) is a Holy day of obligation in the catholic church! I WILL get to mass this time! Most RC parishes will have both Morning and Evening masses! |

I thought it was known as the "dormition", but perhaps I'm wrong. Each to his own. I do "work" in churches regularly and I'm not about to knock people's beliefs. But "obligation" to me smacks a bit of social control. I'm not saying the overall message of the bible is a bad thing, but I'm not about to take every word literally as evangelicals do. I have time for both Catholics and Anglicans alike, but things like Rosary's do my head in. To me it's nothing more than mindless repetition, almost like brain-washing. If it helps then fine, but otherwise I think the majority of people would believe in a God/god who created this universe, without necessarily believing every word of the bible and what, in particular the catholic church has made of it over the centuries. Not knocking you, just my two pennies worth. |
