A252 was the station to listen to if you were a young 'un in the early 1990s. It was the station of my youth and was innovative insofar as ILR copied A252's format.

I remember the station with great fondness and in many ways miss it.

What memories do people have of Atlantic 252?

I used to love it. It was fab. If you weren't demanding top notch quality, you could hear it anywhere in Ireland and in most of Britain.

They crammed unfeasible amounts of music into each hour.

I loved it.

I was so sad when its demise arrived.

And that horrid sport thing that took over. Knew it wouldn't last.

Anyhow, RTÉ have the frequency now and broadcast RTE Radio 1 on the frequency now that they've stopped broadcasting that service on Medium Wave AM from Tullamore. Of course, they broadcast RTE Radio 1 on FM and DAB too.

I used to listen to it all the time when i was younger - me and my sister would tape the top 40 and try to stop the tape while they talked inbetween the songs so we just got a tape of music - it never worked we ended up missing part of most of the songs. lol

Reception was good during the day but interference from other stations made it difficult to listen sometimes after dark.

Hmm let's think of the worst possible waveband to put a music station - How about Long Wave ?

Charlie Wolf was fun though - I remember him from Laser 558 in 1985 !

Long Wave Radio Atlantic 252.....

I remember them running a competition sponsored by Cadbury's Boost - my brother entered it religiously because he really wanted the top prize. What we didn't know was every entry that didn't win the top prize got a free Boost bar. One day about 50 Boost bars turned up in the post, which was cool. Until we got the phonebill.....

Plus, they introduced to the joys of the song 'Flagpole Sitta' which is still one of my favourite "nobody understands me" songs.

Oh - and the bloody soundtrack to my mornings, thanks to my brother.....

Come down to the garden village and see, a day in the life of the Poddington Peas.....

I hate peas.

Reception would have been worse if it had been on MW.
