photoWriter and computer spod (thankfully doing more of the former after far too long hung up on the latter!). My area of work is the performing arts -- specifically, theatre and television -- and, while I know far too much about the latter, am always looking for people to accompany me to the former! Always interested in meeting new friends, especially those willing to help me celebrate becoming a published author!

The BBC World Service has just broadcast its adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel, "Anansi Boys".

In distilling the whole book into an hour, it jettisons a lot -- but it feel like it flows naturally for the medium. Lenny Henry is better than I thought he would be as Fat Charlie and his brother Spider, Matt Lucas is his usual over-the-top self as Graham Coates, but Rudolph Walker, Dona Croll and Tameka Empson add a sense of depth.

Jocelyn Jee Esien was, I thought, a let-down -- it felt a little too like she was putting on her "posh voice" persona from Little Miss Jocelyn, and at times sounded like she was reading the part rather than inhabiting it. But all in all, a satisfying hour of drama. As usual, though, the book's far better.

It's available for the next seven days:

only 1 hour??

But thats nowhere near enough time to really give the book the adaptation it deserves.

I'm tired of people doing cheap adaptations of Gaimen he deserves so much better.
