I grew up in a small village and went to school in a small-ish town in Lincolnshire. Not the most gay friendly county but nevermind! When i was 15/16 i came out to my friends as bi and still went out with a few girls after that. All my friends were supportive and most didn't even blink an eye. At 18, my last yr in school i came out as gay. And things began to change, i went to uni, quit and came back at 19 and got a bf. Since that time my old school friends are distant, funny with us both and generally quite nobish but not nasty (to my face anyway).
Now i'm 24 and am still with the same guy and we've been Civil Partnered. I hardly see or speak to any of my old friends now... Is it due to homophobia? And why did they not mind when i thought i was 'bi'?

Are you sure it's to do with your sexuality though? It could also be that they've just grown apart - it does happen.

If you're sure it's to do with you being gay then you have two choices:

1. Have it out with them - see what's happening.
2. Ignore it and move on. Make new friends and avoid seeing them unless you have to.

I'm sure if it were homophobia you would know about it.

Maybe your sexuality unsettles them? Often many heterosexuals - especially male ones - find the possibility of alternative sexuality quite unsettling.

Get friends who aren't bothered. Get rid of the ones that are.

Oh i've got lots of friends currently who i hang out with a lot. but facebook inspired me to get in touch with all the old friends. Dont think i'll bother now!
And as for growing apart... it almost happened instantly the moment i told them i was gay.

They were probably afraid they'd catch it off you...

It happens anyhow with old friends pal - that probably just acted as a much required catalyst.
