Now it's that time of year again, and I'm a year older on Thursday. I'm surprised at the number of people who are making a bigger issue of it than me. For many years now a birthday is like any other day. I get up and go to work like any other day, except I have a slightly larger pile of post on the mat and have a few nice presents from close family.

It's nice that others are treating it as a special day and remembering me, and thanks to the couple of friends on OUT who have already sent me virtual cards. I don't see the point, though, in taking a day off work and doing nothing like so many of my friends and acquaintances do.

Birthdays are great when you are young and something to be properly celebrated, but once you get into adult working life I can't see the point... apart from maybe the milestone birthdays.

How do you spend your birthday? Do you *celebrate* them? Is it just an excuse for another piss-up? Do you like to let everyone know in the hope that you'll get loads of presents?

Sadly my birthday is the 2nd week of Jan and as yet I've always been banned from taking time off in Jan but I think that may have changed so I may take it off I'm unsure.

Only thing is with my hols booked for 2 weeks towards the end of Jan I don't really see a point in what I would class as wasting a holiday day on my birthday. I'll give it some thought. I usually end up going out with friends for a meal in the evening and having a few glasses *cough cough* I mean bottles of red wine.
