following on from one of my late nite public ramblings which quickfind:curve wonderfully posted to ...

Never forget, Never go back

we live in a time and country were we have some pretty amazing civil liberties and freedoms. this has not always been the case. at one time those who were considered a 'threat' to the morality of our country were locked up and 'treated' in the most barbaric ways ... gays, single mothers, the "morally weak"

these 'treatments' were nothing short of torture, the barbaric brutalization of another human being. dunkings in cold baths, electrodes being attached to genitals, ECT, forced labour, horrific medications, and not forgetting that ultimate cure-all the lobotomy.

I consider myself very fortunate, in that I have met people who went through this, survived this, and I have been fortunate enough to hear their stories. I have seen the lasting scars, the permanent damage it has done to people. it was a rude awakening in my life.

now look at 2008. the government is talking about cutting our civil liberties in the name of protecting society. it can be argues that this has already started.

but where does it end?

without wishing to in any way diminish the tragedy and horror of the Holocaust, there is a lesson to be learned from the survivors ... Never Forget and Never Again

how quickly we, as a country, could slip back into the torture and brutalization of those percieved to be a threat to our society. this time it may not be single mothes, it may be muslims. it may not be the homosexual, it may be the "drug adict".

but at the end of the day we are all human beings, all people, and we ultimately have more in common that we have in difference. let us neve go back to the way things were.

rant over
