I am currently reading 'The Eye of the Prophet by Khalil Gibran' the following statements really stood out to me:

Your ideology claims that nations are evaluated according to their politics, their parties and their congress, and in accordance with their decisions and their pacts.

Mine decrees that the only merit of a nation is the labour of each one of its citizens.

and

Your ideology attributes the greatest of a State to the exhaustiveness of its troops at war, the efficacy of its satanic arsenal and the ingeniousness of its chemical weapons.

Mine stipulates that there is no superiority wherever rectitude is thrust aside, and that there is no will if it does not support truth. The longer the victory of muscles swollen with technical prowess lasts, the more sudden will be their ruin.

What are you thoughts on them?

There speaks (Khalil) someone who hopes his ideals will stop bullits; and who also comes from a culture that has been on the bottom of the heap for a while, and is dreaming of the top of the heap.

History has shown whats happens to those who fail to protect themselves. They get conquored.

That horrible phrase "Those who wish for peace should prepare for war" is true, I think. Its the mantra of the dominant (although possibly morally corrupt) West. If only the US hadnt ACTUALLY gone to war as well, we may have had the high moral ground.

Maybe in the world of 24 hour news and the internet, these high ideals may come to fruition, as moral outrage is as instantaneous of the news itself (a first in human history); but it certainly hasnt been.

Lets hope for a Star Trek future, where all peoples live in harmony like a Coca Cola advert. But I might just keep a few SAS boys around, just incase someone thinks I shouldnt be allowed to be gay, or black, or jewish, or hold my own business............

I am prepared to believe that Khalil Gibran perceives - what he calls - his ideology in reference to 'our' ideology the way he describes it. However, I am afraid that his perception has very little to do with reality.

Mind you, 'our' ideology and reality have in many ways also some rather sad gaps to bridge.

But I would maintain that we, in most instances, have a political system in place which is a bit more biased towards us, the grest unwashed, to allow us through democratic votes to realise our ideas of ideology and the way we want our lives organised.
