I'm a food-loving, slim, walking, event-organising, low-tax-campaigning, pragmatically academic, internationally working, property investing, troubleshooting coffee-addict seeking friends and contacts. If you have suffered tax injustice that the system cannot solve, I'd like to hear from you.

The attached URL is a long blog on the "Pathfinders" scheme, which hit today's headlines as the National Audit Office published its report on it.

I re-produce extracts of the three conclusions for your convenience:

"First, we may need to recognise that most of these depressed cities are simply in the wrong place. We no longer need to be next to coal fields...

"Second, we should stop all policies that increase employment costs in depressed regions. This crazy Prescott scheme was deliberately targeted on increasing local house prices thus undermining a key competitive advantage...

"Third, we should implement full fiscal decentralisation. That way, local authorities themselves have a strong interest in building their local business base through whatever means they can..."

Common sense, by the sounds of it. So why waste so much taxpayer's money to re-discover it? Why coerce citizens - your own core voters! - into doing things they didn't want to happen?

How much less tax might you have paid had the Pathfinder's scheme never existed?
