Just came upon this columnist's views on the Guardian's website - not the most Labour hating paper on the news stands.

Whether or not you believe or back the Government over the war in Iraq there are some interesting claims in this article. He states that today Britain locks up 151 out of every 100,000 people. The Chinese jails 119 people per 100,000; Burma imprisons 120 and Saudi Arabia 132. Even though Thatcher introduced Right to Buy, arguably the thing which sounded the death knells of access to social housing, Monbiot claims that under her premiership an average of 46,600 social homes were built every year; under Tony Blair the average was 17,300.

Do you agree with his statement that "all we are left with is fear: the fear that 'this awful government' might be replaced by something slightly worse. Fear has destroyed the Labour party, but people keep supporting it in trepidation of letting the other side win."
