Whatever you think of the story, you just have to love this quote:

"When will politicians realise that George Orwell's 1984 was a warning, not an instruction manual?"

from UKIP MEP Derek Clark.

FHS

this is such a nonstory and results from a mistranslation of a 'proposed' wquestion for the census. Consensual union would be better worded as 'cohabitation' or 'common law partnership"

It is supposed to get around the outdated focus on just marriage as an option.

Frankly, I can't believe the BBC was stoop to this level of reporting. Forget the daily mail, it would appear the BBC is now on the level with the Daily Express.

("I'd be incredible interested to know how a green-fingered couple in possession of a wide screen TV who sleep together will help housing planning, but I've no doubt the EU will come up with some lunatic reason how it does." ) i

Now thats my favourite quote... I love it

Although no fan of the EU, I don't particularly get animated by this story. I just think it's a bloody brilliant thing to say.

I agree that the BBC's coverage is very poor.

Their reporting on EU issues has become very tabloid recently.

I couldn't give a crap about whether its important or not, Derek Clark made me laugh with that. He should be a comedian

Actually, in general, it's funny how only people who are pro-EU think that.
