Yes, it does. I have laughed in the faces of my workmates, who are too soft to venture alone into "haunted" parts of the building. I have rolled my eyes and tutted at the endless ghost stories. I have despaired of my otherwise sensible, level-headed colleagues who are so quick to believe in ghosts. Only days ago, I said here on OUT that I find it all quite silly and unbelievable.

Well, I've just done a weekend of nightshifts, during which I was spooked out.

I was alone from 10.30pm until 12.30am in a part of the building that is said to be haunted. I wasn't fazed in the slightest because I don't believe it. I was merrily working away with the radio on full blast. After an hour or so, I went to the toilet. Whilst in there, I heard, unmistakeably, through the wall to my left, the door to the ladies' changing room open and close.

I went out to investigate. Nobody at all, anywhere in the department, and I knew it couldn't have been someone leaving, or I would have heard the door to the main corridor closing. Besides, I knew that I was alone and that there had been nobody with me.

When I had finished there, I left and returned to my workmates. I told them what had happened, and all but one of them had been too tied up with work to have come anywhere near. The only one that could have come in flatly denied doing so. I didn't believe her, but I do now. Had she been in, I would have got it out of her.

So OK, it was a just a door opening and closing. But it defies logic. I don't know what happened and I feel stupid to even entertain the thought that it was something ghostly. But what I do know is this: there was nobody leaving or entering, there was no wind or draught to blow the door open (besides which, the handle has to be pulled down), and there was no other person with me at any point. And I am absolutely, 100% certain that the door opened and closed - I heard it, and I know exactly which door it was.

Maybe it's someone's way of telling me to be a bit more open-minded...
