A topic from Technology: Operating Systems

Microsoft has announced that it will cease sales of Windows XP as planned on 30 June this year.

The OS will continue in limited form available as a "downgrade" option to those with Vista Business or Ultimate, and can be pre-installed until 2009 on "ultra low-cost PCs" like the Asus eeepc.

But essentially this is the end of XP's almost 7 year run - 30 June already represented an extension of the original end-date of 31 January.

So what are your thoughts? Will you be rushing out to buy a copy in case you need it in the future? Have you already successfully upgraded to Vista, or do you no longer use Windows?

By the way if I've got anything wrong about this story, please correct me. As ever, anything to do with Microsoft licensing is complicated!
