Anyone read this tome? There was an interesting review of Davidson's book in the Review section of Saturday's Guardian

It sounded erudite but wrong-headed. The review quoted various passages including the following nugget: "a Greek of the classical period can talk of an eros in which there is not only no sex and no attempt at sex, but no physical interest, a passionate yet chaste admiration for a young man's beautiful personality, and errr ... impressive muscular development ... "

I doubt that I'd buy the book, let alone read it, since it's both expensive and rather long (600+ pages), but I expect that there are some interesting messages in it. It's good though that Davidson is able to express his own pleasure in man-love without much trace of being abashed (see above quote).

I like the idea of 'adopting chicken'. But I could never be a Spartan on account of their long hair. It's so girly.

PS I've a nice young friend who i just coo at a lot and he knows what I'm like. And doesn't mind. Same thing really 2000 years later isn't it?
