Say what you like, and I'm sure you will. Liverpool has had far too much bad press and insulting jokes made about its residents for years. Yet, it's one of the safest and most historically cultural and diverse cities in the world.

Centuries of stories of imigration and emigration, slavery represented in its own museum, excellent theatres, a wealth of galleries and museums, the first underground railway in the world, cilla black, paul o'grady and not forgetting the Beatles. Liverpool is London in minature, easy to get around and so much to see and do.

My only bad comments: the land where the International Flower Festival stood - why weren't some of the beautiful structures saved? The Chinese pagoda etc. It's a monsterously large housing estate these days. And - there are currently 15,000 empty houses in Liverpool. In one area, the street where Ringo Starr was born, only his house isn't bordered up ready for demolition. A crying shame. Oh, and Liverpool's coucil was recently named the worst in England for being unable to balance its public spending budgets - spending less than it should on the public and over spending on white elephant projects. Plus, emptying 15,000 properties, claiming the Govt. grants to knock down the houses and leaving them, untouched, for NINE years. Then complaining there's no mone to pull them down, replace them or even (the cheaper option) restore them.

All this aside, as a vibrant city, good night life, great places to eat, history and culture on every street corner, I believe Liverpool will be re-vitalised this year, as the 2008 European City of Culture BUT, and it's a BIG but, only if it receives positive promotion from the media. Currently, all programming about Liverpool can only be found, tucked away, late at night (or up against popular, ratings winning shows) on BBC4.
