I can understand the anger of a wife towards her husband's mistress but to break into her house and steal her kitten is not only grossly cruel to the woman but possibly to the cat as well. It's not known what happened to the kitten, as far as I can make out. If she can prove that the kitten is OK and is in a good home, maybe that should be taken as mitigating circumstances. Otherwise, assuming she is convicted, I think that this MP's wife should be jailed for the maximum period permitted by law. I don't know what that is but I hope that it's over twenty years.

Well, I dunno about the kitten's sensibilities, but for a grown sensible woman (an MP no less) to deliberately enter another person's home with the intention of stealing (and probably doing harm) to her rival's pet - well this is pretty disturbing.

The mentality to do such a thing ain't far off what Glenn Close was up to in Fatal Attraction - and that kind of unhinged act demonstrates she has the potential to be dangerous and scary.

Absolutely. The level of cruelty deserves an exceptionally long spell in jail, if she's sane. If not sane, she belongs in a prison hospital.

Burglary isn't punished harshly enough in my opinion. I don't think any burglar should get less than ten years, except in the most exceptional circumstances. Though unconventional, my view is that most burglars should serve longer sentences than most murderers. Burglars seem to see burglary as an occupation and never seem to accept that they're wrongdoers. Murderers simply need to be punished whereas burglars need to be prevented from re-offending and as recidivism among burglars is very high indeed, I reckon that that means locking up first offenders for a long time and locking up repeat offenders pretty much for life. I also think that the legal system fails sufficiently to take into account the effects of burglary on victims.

Many murderers do genuinely regret their crimes. Many murderers do respond to therapy and rehabilitation seems possible. Most burglars seem totally unwilling to accept that they're criminals and do not respond to attempts at rehabilitation.

Quite honestly, I hate burglars with a passion. I definitely favour a very liberal interpretation of self-defence when it comes to defending property against burglars. These two men who stabbed burglars recently should be congratulated for successfully defending their property. One has definitely been told that he was acting in self-defence. I hope that the other will receive a similar ruling in his favour too.
