Hunt launched for police fraudster who targeted Birmingham's gay community

A nationwide hunt has been launched for a fraudster who poses as a police officer and has targeted victims in a number of areas across the UK, including Birmingham.
Matthew Attenborough is wanted by at least nine police forces across England and Wales for offences of fraud and deception.
Police have released photographs of the 30-year-old, including him posing in a police uniform, and are appealing for information to catch him.
Attenborough is wanted for offences committed in Bristol, Birmingham, Newcastle, Liverpool, London, Doncaster, Reading, Coventry and Cardiff, Gloucestershire Police said.
He is targeting the gay community and it appears he is finding his victims through websites.
Gloucestershire Police said they were called to an address in Bishops Cleeve, near Cheltenham, on February 20 following a report of theft.
A 43-year-old man claimed a man who had been staying with him for over a week had left and stolen around £600 in cash and credit cards.
The victim had met the man - who police believe was Attenborough - on a website and had told him his name was Saul White.
Attenborough claimed he was a police officer from Avon and Somerset who was transferring to Gloucestershire and needed a place to stay while he sorted out accommodation.
Pc Melanie Earnshaw, who is investigating the incident in Bishops Cleeve, said: "This man is finding his victims on the internet.
"Once he has got what he wants he will then move onto his next victim it seems in a completely different area of the country."
