The material Manning is alleged to have leaked included 700,000 US diplomatic and military cables and footage of a July 2007 airstrike on Baghdad. The 23-year-old's supporters claim that the leaked files expose civilian deaths which had been covered up by the military. |

I'm against leaking in general, and certainly against cavalier leaking. I think we need to be careful about releasing sensitive information; the last thing we need is to put people at risk. |

If governments could demonstrate that they are honest and do not try to cover up their mistakes, then perhaps the strength of the moral argument would diminish. |

I can understand why the Americans are so angry with him, his actions greatly undermined American diplomacy. Though his harsh treatment is counter productive to achieving proper justice. Thank god they've decided not to press for the death penalty. Its all quite a sad story really. Wiki leaks was memorable, if only for the shear benality of most of its contents. Yes, there were some interesting things, but for the most part do we really need to be told that bears shit in woods? You've got to wonder if he thinks it was all worth it. |
