No, no one is safe anywhere...

We should just shut ourselves up in our houses and wait to die, it is far too dangerous to leave the house....

Our street is a crime free zone.

Well... I say "crime free"... the local drug dealer lives across the way. His sister and her brood are a few houses down. Her mother is a few houses the other way. Then there's the cousins, the uncles, etc, etc...

Nobody dare break into a house or car for fear that it's connected to him in some way.

It's great for keeping the burglary rate down.

Northampton is fast becoming one of the safest places in the country not because crime is on the decrease but because we have the worst police in the country so no one bothers to report crime these days.

Mostly I feel safe but I know how easy it is to get going having been terrorised out of my last house in the town. Last year I attacked a 14 year old outside my house because he was throwing snowballs at my doors and windows. Not because his act was particular dangerous in the great scheme of things but because I had got used to three years of bricks through my glass and I couldn't handle even the reminder of it. I called the police and told them I'd attacked the kid and they told me that the conversation had not taken place and I'd done the right thing.

The day after spending £200 to get a dent out of my car door someone put another one in it at Tesco. I parked at the back of the car park no where near anyone, you know, like that bloke on the tele where the satellite falls on his car. Some bastard had still parked next to me and smashed their door into my car. It's a small thing but it is what makes a person feel unsafe, the attitude that people just don't give a shit.
