Hi,

Anyone going to the Big Chill festival in August? Got any good music tips to share beforehand? I need to put a 5hr playlist together for the journey and am looking for inspiration!

Excellent! I can taste those 5am toasties in the 24hr cafe already. Can't wait!

Since we're now just a week away, anyone going? And if you are, are you getting excited yet?!

In case anyone did make it there - wow, what a great weekend!

Definitely!

Did you check out the ID Spiral tent in the Sunrise? They do the most awesome vegan chai, and really nice pizza. I spent most of Sunday evening in the Eartheart tent, there was a folk band playing some good music there, and I got some much-needed chill-out time. The Sunrise section was definitely the place to go lose yourself when the music got too much.

There were loads of bands I wanted to see but missed though - African Headcharge, Coldcut, Asian Dub Foundation. I did get to see The Orb, Nitin Sawhney, Thievery Corporation, Alabama 3, and the tail end of Tom Middleton's set.

I spent way too much money, but it was sooo worth it. I'm definitely looking forward to Sunrise next year. Hopefully this time it won't flood. Thanks to the Big Chill for taking the Sunrise festugees in!

I just loved the Sunrise bit - we sat in the teepee drinking tea around the fire for a bit last night (how cold was it outside?!) - all being very relaxed until the table service of tequila was brought around, and then it got a bit messy!

Tom Middleton's set was amazing, we missed the opening 20 mins but stayed til the end...

And I have just posted the my best 5 points on the BC Forum (and my bottom 3 'cos I could only think of 3 bits of constructive criticism!). Excuse the cut and paste, but here's the summary...

Top 5:

1. Norman Jay (of course...)
2. Tom Middleton (an amazing set!)
3. The consistently good DJs at the Cocktail Bar on Friday night - brilliant music
4. A surprise stumble over some great music at the Tequila bar last night (Sunday)
5. The additional of Sunrise - that teepee in the middle was great for fires and cups of tea!

(and, gratuitously, if I may... number 6 was getting the chance to dance next to an amazingly beautiful guy in a dressing gown in said tequila bar last night... shame my female friends thought the same!)

And the lowlights... (let's hope BC listen - they usually do!)

1. Litter - sorry, just too much of it on Sunday morning by the Open Air Stage. Obviously been left there from the night before, where were the litter pickers (of course, we should all have thrown our things in the bin, but since that didn't happen either...)
2. Programmes - include them in the ticket price next year! Or pre-order like the car parking? Just seemed a bit silly to buy a ticket and then have no idea who's on when...
3. Rizla Area: Why was it so small?! When you put an act like Annie Nightingale on there, have her facing out onto the green?! I think there were a lot of people who felt excluded...

I had one single massive gripe - as did every single person I was camping with:

Why why why why why why on EARTH did they put Bill Bailey's performance in such a tiny tent? There must have been upwards of 20,000 people in an area that was really only designed for 10K. Bill Bailey really should have been in the Club Tent or on the Castle or Main Stages - they are the only places big enough to take everyone.

Yep - that's all over the forums at the moment - I didn't bother going over (too busy enjoying the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir on the main stage!), but my friend Maria did and she said exactly the same as everyone else. The people at BCHQ usually learn their lessons - expect Bill Bailey to be back next year playing on a bigger stage! Hopefully he'll take the slot that the Mighty Boosh had this year - can't see the attraction there at all - with the fear of sounding prudish, it was all a bit purile and unnecessary really...

I didn't see the Boosh. I was asleep in my tent at the time. The guys I was camping with were mortified...
