We are a sociable and friendly couple who live in a village just to the east of Sevenoaks, Kent. We're always happy to make new friends, see old friends, and enjoy people's company. Our interests include theatre, films, music, countryside, gigs, video-gaming, and our gorgeous dog, Baxter.

I've been very reflective of late about the last 10 years of my life and wanted to have a "declaration", so to speak, of what I've learned during my 30s, and how I hope to live and be in my 40s. It could be my mid-life crisis, but I'm trying to make it my mid-life mantra.

Here goes (in no particular order).

1. I am thankful for the past 10 years of life, for the people who have filled it, and populated it, and come in and out of it. Even the bad ones. I am thankful for Peter, who helped me from the closet, and taught me what it was to completely love another and share a life with them, and especially for Philip who is the fulfilment of all my hopes and dreams for a partner, my rock, my love, and my future.
2. I have been on a journey that has led me to this point. This has taken me through night school and university at the age of 31, to the verge of being a teacher. It has taken me from the closet, to a married gay man.
3. The people who have stayed the journey with me are the people who love me the deepest.
4. My oldest friends are, in fact, my best friends - and I will cherish them always.
5. Some people i will love forever. Others will fade from my memory with time.
6. Although some people are unable to forgive, forget and move on, I must always forgive, forget and move on because life is too short for petty arguments and distance, and these are the things that make you bitter and stop you enjoying good times with good people.
7. Love really is what it's all about. Without that, all this counts for nothing.
8. I am incredibly blessed to be doing something I love, be married to the man I love, and living in an area I love.
9. People who claim to love you, and yet stop talking to you when they find out you are gay do not really love you. Leave them behind.
10. I will not take excess baggage into my new decade. This means stuff that I simply move whenever we move, and people who count themselves as "friends" who I have barely seen or heard from over the last 5 years.
11. I will still worry, but I won't let the worries hold me back. I will not let my fears rule or ruin my life.
12. I must continue to dream and to have hope and to think the best of others.
13. I must be myself, whatever the cost.
14. And, at some point over the coming years, I will own a funky car, and not care two hoots if people refer to it as my "mid-life crisis".

There may be more as I reflect and muse further. :))

xx
