A topic from Love, Sex & Relationships: Miscellaneous

Hi

Not realy looking for anything from anybody, just feel the need to talk out loud so to speak :-)

This week I got back home after a great couple of weeks away, I really needed the break as work is so demanding and draining.

Today I decided to sort through some of those old things from my past relationship (for anybody who doesn't know, my partner of 28 years died 5 1/2 years ago).

I have sorted much over the last 5 years, but the time has come to start getting serious with the sorting, my health isn't great and I want to clear as much as I can while I can, the thought of others doing it sends me cold.

Today I was in the attic sorting through old brochures and photo's, brochures of places we had been together (not sure what else to call them).

I have got rid of many that didn't mean much to me, but we collected them together at every event we ever went to. The photo's on the other hand were more a me thing, they help me remember key times in our lives, an image can bring back so many memories.

Well I have much more to sort through, but today I went through around 1200 photo's, I kept around 100 which will give me the memory tirgers should I need them, and as the last surviving member of my family I also sorted through the photo's of family members. Non of the photo's will mean anything to anybody but me when I'm gone so I was fairly brutal.

Out of around 1200 photo's I got rid of around 1100, many of my photo's are on the computer and I don't feel the need to sort them as they will disapear when I'm gone as they will mean nothing to anybody else.

But, no matter how you deal with it, looking over your life and the life of others seems to have a profound effect on you! It has to be done, but you can't help look at how much of your life is behind you and how little of it is in front of you. You can't help looking at all those who have died before you and how their dreams played out, it is a very moving and grounding experience. One not to be repeated to often for sanitay's sake, I will be sorting agian tomorrow but hopefully I'm nearing the end of the life history side of things.

Sorry to post this, but just wanted to say out loud how sad it makes me feel going over the past of so many years, not just mine but those of others who have gone before me.

Pete

Sorry to hear about your predicament. Perhaps you should look at it from the positive aspect and cherish the good moments. Just think of how lucky you are to have loved and be loved by someone special for 28 years.

Hi

Sorry if I came accross all negative, it was more a matter of looking back over so many years, and not just my life but the life of others.

It makes things seem so transiant.

Hi Pete,

Going through old stuff always brings back memories and emotions, both good and bad. It is more difficult when you have to do it alone.

Life is transient, hence make the best out of it.
