We travelled down to Bridport (or Notting Hill on Sea as it's known)at the weekend - an urban jaunt by our standards - and amused ourselves while having lunch, by spotting who the locals were and who the Londoners were.
There was one guy - clearly just off the leash from being something stressful in the City - who during the half hour or so that we were there devouring our Dorset Blue Vinny and spinach tarts must have got up from his table and gone to the counter at least half a dozen times. He just wouldn't settle. While he was waiting at the counter, he literally hopped from one foot to the other in impatience, while trying to climb in to the shirt of whoever was in front of him, and on one occasion called out in agitation for a cloth because he'd "spilt a cup of tea in his partner's handbag".
Dear me, just relax and settle down. Urban life can't be good for you if it makes you like this.

Bloody townies - they should stay in Islington and leave the countryside alone!!!

If they're not disrupting the peace and tranquility of Mr & Mrs Non-NW1 or should that be Mr & Mr NW1 as you have described philjohn, they are meddling in rural affairs by closing village post offices and banning country sports, putting local countryfolk out of work. I do wish the bastards would stay in the towns!!!

Tally-Ho!

Clansman, xx.

well that wasn't quite what I was getting at. The most famous foxhunters in this country - and hunters of everything else - live in a small pied a terre at the end of the Mall.

of course urban life isn't "good for you". That's why we spend our weekends out of town.

But you just wind everybody else up and no-one's happy. No Londoners come to the Quimtux though. Not voluntarily anyway.

That's me!

It takes me an age to wind down from London. I am rather impatient and demanding with services out of town or even out of country, because London makes you like this. It is embarrasing as you slowly become aware that your behaviour is unusal and you then modilfy it.

Notting Hill by sea as its known

Known by whom?

And why? I've only vaguely heard of it - how come its become destination of choice for wanky urbanites then?

I guess it's popular because it's gorgeous, and relatively easy to get to. A lot of rather swanky shops and restauarants have opened up. Not sure of the origin of the nickname - I may just have seen it in a paper. You'd have to ask the real Bridport masseeeev, quickfind:harmonix or quickfind:densboy about that.
