It looks like a really old book, it feels like a really old book, it smells like a really old book. It *is* really old. 93 years old but in perfect condition. It's a hardback, the paper is really thick and the print looks like someone has typed the whole thing, there's gold gilt along the top.

It didn't cost any more than the latest re-print but it seems so much more amazing; not necessarily because it's 93 years old - and first published over 100 years ago - but just imagining the pleasure it's brought to so many different people as they've read it over the years. I've never been so excited over owning a book before; perhaps because I don't actually read that much or buy that many books, I feel quite embarrassed at my glee!

How strange that something so seemingly insignificant could cause so much joy. Will "electronic books" and media gadgets for reading things on screens *ever* replace the pleasure of reading a book that must surely have been through so many hands in its 93 years of life.

I'm so glad I didn't buy the 2003 re-print.
