I upgrade my i pod for one of the new slim 30g video ipods last year (thats how long i've been trying to solve this problem!) when i first connected to i tunes it asked me if i wanted to download my exisiting library to the i pod i said yes and it transfered the library to the new i pod.

But since then all new music that i have downlaoded from i tunes or off cd's or any other source will not transfer/sync to the new ipod.

When i connect the ipod to itunes the ipod shows up in itunes but i just cant transfer anything.

I named the ipod different to the old one when setting it up for the first time. do i need to de-authorise the computer or something, i'm really stumped, i've got nowhere with the help topics on itunes website.

oh i also use 2 computers to with itunes - my laptop and my desktop (don't know if that makes a difference but neither of them allow me to transfer/sync)

HELP, thanks

Adski

Nope you don't - you can sync as many iPods as you like from your iTunes library - its the PC that is authorised not the iPod (I've sync'd 3 or 4 iPods over the last few years to my iTunes - never had a problem).

Have you tried restoring the iPod software? When you connect to iTunes, you should get a pile of options - one being to restore the software. Only thing with this is it will delete *all* the data from the iPod - including all the tunes you already have on it, so I'd make that the last thing to try....

if i do reset the software am i right in thinking that as long as i have all the music thats on the ipod on itunes backed up, i should be ok and not lose any music in theory as i would have it on itunes? am i right?

thanks DM

iTunes gives you two options - transferring stuff manually or letting it sync automatically. You might have set it to the wrong mode.

First of all, make sure you've got the most up to date version of iTunes installed.

Then connect the iPod and open iTunes.

Click on the iPod in the Source panel over on the left-hand side. This will open a window with various settings, where you can tell it to either sync or let you transfer files manually.

Try that and see how you get on.

Yes - the music you have on your PC will stay there - but the stuff on the iPod will be deleted, but you should be able to get it back on (assuming it all works!)

Also do what quickfind:topspin says :)

Yeah, install the new version, just to be safe.

Are you using a Mac or a PC?

Aww you're not being a pain!

Update the software - its usually good to keep it up to date :)

ok, so all sorted with updates and software. i've selected to have my ipod sync music and all songs & playlists, when i go to apply it says:

"the ipod 'adski2' is synced with another itunes libary. do u want to erase this ipod and sync with this itunes libary. NOTE: an ipod can be synced with only one itunes libary at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this ipod with the contents of this itunes libary"

ekk????

Say yes.

It will delete what is on your iPod just now, but will copy all the songs back over. Depending how many you have that might take a few hours tho!

(Assuming this is your only PC that is!)
