Have you read any really good books about being gay, gay relationships, 'how to...' or anything addressing the needs and concerns of gay men?

In my work as a therapist with gay men, I am often asked whether I can recommend such books, particularly about gay relationships (getting into one, being in one or getting out of one), aging as a gay man, feeling better about oneself as a gay guy etc.

If you have read anything you thought was particularly good, I would love to hear about it. Or if you had read some shockers, share them as well: what was it about these books that turned you off or that the authors simply got wrong?

I've been researching this myself for a workshop I'm presenting a staff conference in a couple of weeks' time on gay men and well-being / mental health.

When I was very young (14 or so) I found Terry Sanderson's "How To Be a Happy Homosexual" incredibly useful, though I suspect my adult cynicism would see it as rather twee now.

I've just finished the Gay And Lesbian Self-Esteem Book by Kimeron N Hardin which I thought was rather good, and just yesterday I got my copy of The Velvet Rage by Alan Downs through. I'm not sure I feel rage, but this has been highly recommended by several sources and so I'm keen to try it.
