A topic from News & Current Affairs: Human Rights

I have just had an email from an organisation called Intercom Trust. They have recently sent me an URGENT email regarding the above.

This is an important issue for EVERYONE, including LGBT people, no matter what your ethnic background and/or religion.

Please read on:

""I am sorry to say that suddenly there are THREE important threats to the equality and freedoms we've all worked so hard for.

Please have a look at Intercom's Campaigns web-page, and if you can possibly make time this weekend, tell the Government what you think about these proposed changes.

1. Watering down the Specific Equality Duties.
2. Consultation on abolishing or revising the entire Equality Act 2010 (yes, that's right!)
3. Decision not to implement the important protection against Dual Discrimination.

These are all major issues, cutting across all the protected characteristics. They are likely to affect us all at some time, whether or not we are LGB or Trans.

What can we do?
The full details are on our web-page http://www.intercomtrust.org.uk/campaigns/, where we have suggested ways you can tell the Government what you think.

Many thanks to all
Michael
Executive Director""

I have already emailed my local MP, Nick Clegg and other relevant government bodies mentioned in Intercom's web page.

Please tell your friends, families, acquaintances, colleagues, and anyone else you can think of. Let's stop the Government from undoing all that hard work that has been done by activists, organisation such as Stonewall, etc. This is not to be tolerated. We need to stop this, be counted and be united.

I know that none of us want to go through what our ancestors and the LGBT community went through when it comes to equality and rights, never mind the homophobic bulllying and beatings that they endured. So please pass on the above information and tell everyone you know.

I willl be hopefully sometime this week starting an online petition, unless someone "out there" knows someone who has already done this. If so, please let me know asap.

Thank you
