photoI want to say I was raised in the 1980's above a Soho Strip joint by Beryl Reid and Quentin Crisp. I want to say that everything I've learnt about life was taught to me by Video Nasties and MTV. I want to say that gallant men across the land seek my embrace and fight duels for my favour.

I think I may have finally found a story which I think might actually be best described as 'Political Correctness Gone Mad'!

In the Times today there is a story about Jamie Bauld, a boy with Downs Syndrome, who was questioned and then charged with assault and racial abuse.

Now the fact that the boy has a mental age of about 5 years old, despite being 18, didn't put the officers off doing their duty and the case has veered dangerously towards the boy being prosecuted.

See usually you lot on here bang on about "It's political correctness gorn mad..." and I normally just roll my eyes and think you're a load of puddings. But in this case I am quite prepared to join you.

It is quite shocking that the Police force seemingly now have so little power to make quality judgements about how a possible criminal case should be dealt with that they 'have' to proceed when it is quite clear that any persecution is not in the public interest.

It just goes to show how little procedural expertise exists in the criminal justice system when dealing with mentally challenged or mentally ill people.
