Why do my irons never last?

Does anyone have any ideas? The third one in as many years has just stopped working this evening. At least it didn't catch fire like the last one! |

Probably clogged up with limescale from hard water, descale them. |

Modern appliances are not built to last, my mother still uses same iron she bought 40 years ago works perfectly. |
