I'm wondering about keeping chickens in my garden but have a few concerns and wondered if any Outers had experience of keeping hens?

I've got a spot in mind in our front garden, outside our garden gate in a communal front garden. I'm looking at this henhouse/run, that comes complete with ex-battery hens:

but I've got a few queries/concerns:

* How much noise do the chickens make? We've got neighbours very close by!
* For the same reason, do they/the coop smell?
* Do the chickens need to be let out their run every day?
* If we do let them roam, how much damage will they do to the garden? We're keen gardeners and open our garden for charity so I don't want them doing too much damage!
* We have a dog - although the coop/run won't be in the back garden, is it going to drive her nuts having them around? Especially if we let them roam?

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received!
