I recently challenged my council tax banding after finding out my house and my ajoing neighbours are in band b, while the rest of the street is in band a.

I live in a housing development that has been up for 10 years, and is surounded by mainly council properties and the odd pocket of new builds. A friend of mine has just moved into a brand new house about 1 mile from me, and has been put into band A.

I wrote to the VOA, submiting details from their own website that showed my whole street being in band A, while I am in band b. I also provided details of the plot size of my house and one of the others down the street as well as the developers plans for the whole astate when it was built. All the houses are the same size, and design built at the same period in time. The only difference is that i am semidetached and my neighbours are a quasi terrace. That should not of put me in the band b category surely?

They replied saying that they felt this banding was correct, even aftert looking at the evidence I provided, and that was final I could not contest this any further with them.

I cant believe that they still insist I am in band B, while 3 ft away the exact same style of house is band A. Over the period I have owned the house the difference between band A and B amounts to over £1000.

A friend suggested taking it to a solicitor, but im not sure what they could do.

Any advice, or do I just have to live with it?
