I've discovered two reusable brown non-recycling bags on my doorstep.

What are these for?

Okay, I get that it's for non-recyclable stuff, but is this garden waste? Is it food and kitchen debris? Since they don't collect bottles for recycling in this area, are they to go in too?

My council didn't bother to let me know...

According to google (leicestershire) dont know if all councils are the same
In the brown recycling bag you can place:-
paper, junk mail (always tear off the bit that contains your personal information)
envelopes
cardboard, greeting cards
newspapers, magazines, catalogues, telephone directories
shredded paper

For safety reasons please ensure that your bags weigh less than 5 kilograms each

But I already have green boxes collected for those standard 'recycling' items.

These ones are labelled 'non-recycle' items.

Have a look on your council website, looks like each council is different, typical for the councils not to be uniform with the recycling

I'm in a queue on the phone.

The website refers to black bags and brown boxes, neither of which this is.

Bah!

Apparently, since I'm not in an area that can accommodate brown wheelie-bins (mid terrace house) I have a bag.

In this bag, I put...

...wait for it...

...my black bin bag.

Did someone say 'waste of money'?

Put a bag in a bag. Riiiiight.

I suppose it may look the street more organised on collection day and maybe keeps the dogs from splitting the bags open when left out overnight (though I'd never do that).
