A topic from Home & Garden: Miscellaneous

Over the 2 years my prized Bonsai we lovingly killed by well meaning neighbours, over watered to the point they kept them on the sink drainer.

I have some replacements, I'm not experienced with Bonsai and am learning as I go.

My main one is doing fine, I bought this from a major garden centre.

I have 3 others, one that came from a Bonsai shop (closed down shortly after I bought it) seems to be deceased though I'm not sure.

I have noticed an increasing amount of White Flecks on the surface of the soil, I would suspect mites but can see anything living. The tree is struggling to produce leaves and blossoms, although it is still producing both there is less and less coverage on the tree.

As things stand I suspect it will be completely bare in the next month or so. Some branches are already totally without leaves.

Non of my Bonsai books show anything that it might be.

Any suggestions as to what the problem might be, or what I might be able to do about it?

While I'm at it, one of the other 2 came from Homebase (It was being sold off cheap), and one was a gift at Xmas and came from a market stall.

Both of these lost all their leaves, my books suggest this is normal taking into account where they came from. One of my books suggests they have less than a 50% chance of surviving simply because of where they came from and wont have been looked after.

Well I seem to be having some success with them, they are both now producing new shoots, not sure how to deal with them in the sense of sort of starting again with pre-existing trees?

Any tips welcome.
