People don't believe me that I am shy face-2-face, despite being a right cheeky monkey on some Forums. Orginally from the West Country, but transplanted to Reading in early 90s. Joined OUT for both Gay Male & Female friends, to break the feelings of isolation after the breakup of a long term relationship.

City and Guilds launch new Level 2 Award in HIV and AIDS

The UK's leading body for vocational and managerial skills has announced a new qualification in understanding HIV and AIDS.

It has been created in conjunction with sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in understanding HIV and AIDS is designed for people interested in or already work in a role where further knowledge would be beneficial.

"The qualification is ideal for people who work in a variety of roles including nurses, GP reception staff, voluntary workers, probation officers, police officers, teachers, social services staff, staff in drug support services and residential care services," said THT.

The distance learning-based course is structured into three units with 20 hours of study time for each unit.

Joanna Hurren of City & Guilds said:

"We're delighted to have joined forces with THT to develop this important qualification.

"Supporting THT's initiatives in this sector, our qualification aims to help improve people's understanding of HIV and AIDS and will enable learners to become better informed and challenge any inaccurate statements they may come across.

"It will give them plenty of insight, enabling them to gain knowledge of the sector in order to become involved in either a paid or voluntary capacity.

"The course could in effect help to open the door to a career in the HIV sector, or could help to support a person's career development if already working in a role where it's beneficial to be aware of the issues relating to HIV and AIDS."
