So, since embarking on my 300 day mission to lose 90lbs, I've joined a gym and been going regularly. Also been doing a shed load of walking and more recently lots of hiking up mountains.

Soooo, according to various fat monitoring devices and measures, I've now reliably gone from a ridiculously lardy 43%-ish fat to 29%-ish fat.

A few whizzo calculations later tells me that from start-weight to now-weight, that's a drop of 45lbs of fat. But my actual weight has only gone down 25lbs.

So, with all this walking (16-20,000 steps a day) plus all the cardio in the gym and all the weights stuff and hiking, could this mysterious 20lbs difference be accounted for in muscle mass? Just how much *is* 20lbs of muscle?

When I was last uberslim, my muscles - particularly my leg muscles - were 'notably' large.. I guess from spending my entire developing years weighing a ridiculous amount before I lost it all at age 21/22. Since then obviously I've loaded a whole bunch back on and now in the process of losing it.

But if I'm down 43%->29% fat and that represents 45lbs of pure lard, and I'm only 25lbs lighter, what's going on....

PS: Incidentally, for those following it, the next instalment of my weight loss video blog is now on my profile ;)
