Topic started by Paul - Killing Time Since 1974 (twyford)

photoPaul stood by himself in a thistly corner of the forest, his feet apart, his head on one side, and thought about things. Sometimes he thought sadly to himself, "Why?" and sometimes he thought, "Wherefore?" and sometimes he thought, "Inasmuch as which?" and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about.

So, here I am, all nervous today. As of 530pm last night when I spoke to the letting agent it has been confirmed that as of 1st October myself and my lovely boyfriend Steve quickfind:sjs77 will be renting a place together, eeeeeek!

For both of us this is a stunningly big move, for my part I've never (rather sad but true at my age) lived away from home. I've never had the urge to until now (my parents house is very comfortable and I have my own rooms) but once the conversation started about looking for a place together I just couldn't wait, the excitement, for us both, was overwhelming.

For Steve it's an equally big and scary move, he'll be moving from Essex/London to Reading which will be something of a culture shock and, rather sadly, means leaving an area where he has so many friends, though it has been entirely his choice and of course in this day and age it's hardly difficult to stay in touch, on top of which they are already queuing to come and visit us once we are settled.

It's such a strange feeling, we are both so nervous, the butterflies and everything but at the same time it is such wonderfully exciting thing for us to be doing together, it's all tingly.

The are certainly some issues (not between us) that are tainting what should be a really joyous time for us both, but that's a thread for another. For now, when focused on the fun and future that we have ahead of us, not to mention all the furniture shopping, we are both overwhelmingly confident that we are doing the right thing, as our our famlies and the bulk of our friends.

I know I'm waffling, I can't help it today, but I'm curious, as this is a first for me, how have other people felt in the past when moving in with a partner? Do you remember how you felt the first time you flew the nest?

For me, with the only guy I have lived with, he wanted to move in all too quickly. I now know he had major problems which he kept hidden from me for the duration of our relationship - but can piece stuff together from events since.

At least your move is planned and is a mutually agreed event. I've no doubt you guys will be fine!

All the best :-)
