2008 is nearly here.
I'll be 40 this year.
40 sounds really old.
I don't 'feel' really old - I feel pretty good aside from a little premature arthritis.
My 'head' feels 20 and my love of life and the world is almost childlike but 40 'sounds' old.

I was wondering if you can get to a point where it's too late to find a mate.

Brad Pitt I ain't but there are days when the face looks okay.
I know, I have too intimate a relationship with food and my waistline won't lie for me.

Fashion was never my strong point and I was never one for clubbing and being with the beautiful people. I tend to like guys who are younger than me but I'm getting no younger myself.

Has my chance gone out the window ?

Being a realist I accept some of the blame for being single for over... well let's not go into that. I never made much of an effort to get out and meet people when I had the chance - a mixture of shyness, laziness and workaholicism kept me at home.

For the last 7 years I've stayed in to look after my adopted son and I know that being a single parent could turn off potential mates.

But then, if someone did look at me I probably wouldn't notice - I'd check my flies and make sure nothing unpleasant was hanging from my nose - I have no expectations on that front. I seem to be good to chat to but it seems that no-one ever thinks of me in 'that' way.

On the whole I'm happy. I love my work, enjoy free time. It's just when holiday times come round and there's more time to think about it that I wish...

Where do I go ? What do I do ?
It would be nice to go to a concert and meet a fellow music lover but how do you know if they're... or even if they're.....? No-one ever taught me those things.

Do I wait till my son's a bit older and I can go out more ?
Does anyone believe in dating agencies ? (Tried 'em ages ago and wasn't keen).
Do I just forget it and accept that fate dealt me a pretty good hand but no kings ?

This is all a bit rhetorical and thinking out loud and I'm certainly not depressed about it but if anybody has a happy story to tell....

Happy New Year when it comes !
